On Water and Photography

Water is an element of transformation, purification, the unconscious, birth and rebirth. To be in water is to be weightless as a spirit. The surface tension of water is an analogue for the interface between the living and the realm of spirits. By photographing in this symbolically charged environment and giving up conscious control, the possibility exists that for a fraction of a second a door might open into other levels of reality that coexists with ours.
Photography is renowned for its ability to record the appearance of the physical world, but its highest potential is to simply and honestly portray that which transcends our senses.
